Fine Art Friday

Highdive.bmp

I know it is fashionable in some circles to "diss" the art of Norman Rockwell. Well, I'm not in those circles. I love everything about this picture--the composition with the strong diagonal, the extreme realism of the diving tower, and the fear on the boy's face ('cause I've been there). This speaks "Summer!" to me.

Sadly, in 25 years or so, no one will understand the image. The Wall Street Journal ran an editorial piece a couple of weeks ago on how litigation, fear of litigation, and rising insurance premiums unrelated to any actual increase in accidents, are leading most pools to remove their high dives.

A bunch of lawyers wrote in to the editor a week later to bloviate about how they're rendering a public service, blah, blah, blah.

I just pray that civilization collapses before the nanny state goes any farther.

It says summer to me. So do peaches, tomatoes, and corn! Go to kitchenmadonn.com to see what to do with them. Then go back to the pool!
Blessings,

Oh, I love, love, love Norman Rockwell. He is one of my favourite artists of all time. All it took to get me hooked was his painting The Jury Room. He has more than an artist's eye for detail; he also has a great sense of humour. :)

When I was five, a friend of my parents, a grown man, pushed me off the high dive. I survived, but hate him to this day. For those who diss Rockwell's stuff, well, if you think it's so easy, try it.
