I have put my Christmas ring-tone on my phone. Did I pick a lovely traditional carol? A classical jewel?
Nope.
The fabulous Eartha Kitt singing the opening bars of this one, probably my favorite secular Christmas song. And, yes, people do look at me kinda funny in the grocery store line when my purse starts singing this.
Santa baby, slip a sable under the tree, for me
I've been an awful good girl
Santa baby, and hurry down the chimney tonight
Santa baby, an out-of-space convertible too, light blue
I'll wait up for you dear
Santa baby, and hurry down the chimney tonight
Think of all the fun I've missed
Think of all the fellas that I haven't kissed
Next year I could be oh so good
If you'd check off my Christmas list
Boo doo bee doo
Santa honey, I wanna yacht and really that's
Not a lot
I've been an angel all year
Santa baby, and hurry down the chimney tonight
Santa cutie, there's one thing I really do need, the deed
To a platinum mine
Santa cutie, and hurry down the chimney tonight
Santa baby, I'm filling my stocking with a duplex, and checks
Sign your 'X' on the line
Santa baby, and hurry down the chimney tonight
Come and trim my Christmas tree
With some decorations bought at Tiffany's
I really do believe in you
Let's see if you believe in me
Boo doo bee doo
Santa baby, forgot to mention one little thing, a ring
I don't mean a phone
Santa baby, and hurry down the chimney tonight
Hurry down the chimney tonight
Hurry down the chimney tonight
Cheers, ya'll!
When you're going secular, go all out...
That's why White Christmas is my favorite secular Christmas secular Christmas movie. No spiritual pretense. (Yeah I guess there are some spiritual lessons involved but they are sort of take them or leave them - not forced on the viewer. Which is probably the best way to present a spiritual lesson.) If I had a cell phone I certainly wouldn't mind The Best Things Happen While You're Dancing or Counting your Blessings as my Ringtone.
Or maybe the Beach Boys "Little St. Nick." One year during Advent I used to crank that up every morning on the CD player to get my drowsy high schooler out of bed. It does get the toes tapping. :)
You sexy thang!
Dear MamaT,
What exquisite taste. I don't have the ringtone, but I listen to the song a lot--too much. But I never fail to get a kick out of the cadence in "I wanna yacht and
really that's
not a lot."
And then the line about the platinum mine. A Gem. And perfected by the marvelous Eartha Kitt's voice.
It's frightening how our tastes in some things converge. Frightening and gratifying. It's nice to know that I know people of great discernment.
shalom,
Steven
i want a ringtone that exclaims, but santa, i can explain!
Ah, Steven, it is I that am flattered and gratified......
