.....sung to "Crucifer" by Sydney Nicholson, again with brass accompaniment today. If that doesn't raise the hairs on your arms, you are dead:
Refrain
Lift high the cross, the love of Christ proclaim,
Till all the world adore His sacred Name.
Led on their way by this triumphant sign,
The hosts of God in conquering ranks combine.
Refrain
Each newborn servant of the Crucified
Bears on the brow the seal of Him Who died.
Refrain
O Lord, once lifted on the glorious tree,
As Thou hast promised, draw the world to Thee.
Refrain
So shall our song of triumph ever be:
Praise to the Crucified for victory.
Refrain
I had tears in my eyes, reading the lyrics to those hymns. I spent 8 years as a high-church Epsicopalian before converting to Catholicism. I cannot tell you how much I miss the hymns--well all of the music, really.
We had guitars and bongo drums at mass today. Really.
Ah, Lisa, that's why I post them. I'm glad you liked them.
Thanks for posting--verse #2 is especially meaningful since my daughter was baptized less than a month ago.
We had to sing "Were you there when they crucified My Lord?" Not a bad song at all, but hardly Palm Sunday fare, the ironic triumph of His entry into Jerusalem, proclaimed by those who would scream for his death....
Thanks for posting these.
We sang the same song, Therese, and I thought the same thing as you about it.
