With Labor Day just around the corner......

......it's time to wrap up the Summer Reading Challenge. My list, with the ones I have read lined through, appears below:

Stones from the River by Ursula Heigi
The Golem by Isaac Bashevis Singer
Seven Storey Mountain by Thomas Merton

Sights Unseen by Kaye Gibbons
Delta Wedding by Eudora Welty
The Ponder Heart by Eudora Welty

Lord Vanity by Samuel Shellabarger
Captain from Castile by Samuel Shellabarger

And the following Agatha Christie books:

Nemesis
What Mrs. McGillicuddy Saw!
The Body in the Library
Death on the Nile
Murder on the Orient Express
The ABC Murders
Cards on the Table
Thirteen at Dinner

In addition, I read Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows by J.K. Rowling, Isn't It Romantic by Ron Hansen, The Night is Far Spent by that lovely man Thomas Howard, and I reread Little Men by Louisa May Alcott.

Not a bad summer, though I didn't finish the Southern Reading Challenge. Ah well, there'll be another. And I'll still be reading.

I'll post my mini-reviews of the ones I haven't told you about yet, but I have miles to go before I sleep tonight......

Try to fit in Delta Wedding. Our book club read it in 2006 and the discussions went on for a few months off and on (we're an Internet book club). There is a Mississippi (I think - Southern for sure) artist whose paintings of the delta could illustrate the book. Anyway, the book is perfect for reading on a languid August or early September afternoon.

I read Stones form the River by listening to it as an audio book. I found it interesting and thought being a dwarf in Nazi Germany she was lucky ot survive. Two books I can also recommend are The Bone pedlar (Sylvian Hamilton) and Colleen McCullough's Song of Troy
