Yesterday's fave hymn....

| | Comments (3)

.....takes me back to my Vacation Bible School days as an Episcopalian. This was one of the favorites in the parish I grew up in, rotated with "I Sing a Song of the Saints of God", "All Things Bright and Beautiful", and "Onward, Christian Soldiers". Every time I hear any of these four songs, I am immediately transported back to the days of watered down Kool-aid and windmill cookies. I can even still smell the smell of the Sunday School rooms with the evaporative coolers running......

Anyway, here's something to sing to yourself today:

Fairest Lord Jesus, Ruler of all nature,
O Thou of God and man the Son,
Thee will I cherish, Thee will I honor,
Thou, my soul’s glory, joy and crown.

Fair are the meadows, fairer still the woodlands,
Robed in the blooming garb of spring;
Jesus is fairer, Jesus is purer,
Who makes the woeful heart to sing.

Fair is the sunshine,
Fairer still the moonlight,
And all the twinkling starry host;
Jesus shines brighter, Jesus shines purer
Than all the angels heaven can boast.

All fairest beauty, heavenly and earthly,
Wondrously, Jesus, is found in Thee;
None can be nearer, fairer or dearer,
Than Thou, my Savior, art to me.

Beautiful Savior! Lord of all the nations!
Son of God and Son of Man!
Glory and honor, praise, adoration,
Now and forever more be Thine.

we rotated those hymns with All things bright and beautiful, and "Advent tells us Christ is near ' (the one that teaches the liturgical year).
I miss my anglican hymns...
I am trying to find continuing education event in your neighborhood for next year, just so I can visit your parish!

Oooooh I wasn't able to make it "home" this week. I hate living so far now. I mean, it's only 25-30 minute drive, highway most of the way, but when you aren't feeling well you just don't want to make a drive like that. I'm thinking if I am not feeling up to it this week I'll have my husband drive me anyway. I couldn't handle the church out here again.

I haven't seen a Windmill cookie since my VBS days. Do you suppose they only supply them to churches? :)
