If you could extend one month to 50 days (instead of the normal 28, 29, 30, or 31), which month would you want to lengthen?
My answers are in the comments box!
1. Beautiful? The flowers on my kitchen table. The mosaics in the churches of Rome. Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament.
2. Concert? Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra Pops Series - Ricky Skaggs
3. Fear? Becoming completely dependent on my only child.
4. Quirk? I have to put my feet against PapaC's feet before I can go to sleep.
5. Longest month? I'd want it to be October, if it's an autumnal October. If it's a summer October, then I pick November.
Beautiful-- 4 really: My daughters Arwen/Elizabeth, Rosie, Maggie, and Katie!
Last concert(s) -- Katie's HS choir on Tuesday,3 kids HS band Thursday a week ago
Getting older -- that my body will slow down MUCH faster than my mind (or vice versa)
Quirky habit -- I read in the shower. I just have to make sure it's not a library book!
Extended month -- May!! End-of-year concerts, banquets, recitals, proms, games, added to regular meetings, rehersals, etc. make Rosie's wedding 2000 miles from here look logistically simple.
3 beautiful things: Nebraska sunsets during harvest time, Michaelangelo's Pieta, my kids
Last concert: Professional musicians: Emmy Lou Harris and Buddy Miller (my birthday gift from my husband last fall). Amatuers: the Christmas concert at Zooey's school (he sang with all the big kids).
Aging fear: Becoming a self-centered, pushy old broad
Quirk: My favorite part of a bowl of ice cream is all the stuff that sticks to the sides when you can't spoon any more out of the bowl -- stuff you have to lick, which generally causes your nose to get covered with ice cream, too, depending on the shape and size of the bowl.
Month: October and May both sound good, but I'd pick December because I'd like to have more time between Christmas and Lola's birthday (Jan. 9)

The mass, well performed choral music, women
Soup
UCO Orchestra concert. It was disappointing
Salad
I'm not as innocent as I used to be
Main Course
I have a hobby for collecting concealed weapons.

February I guess. No reason other than I just think it's wierd that one month only gets 28 or 29 days.
Beauty: My wife, our children, our marriage
Concert: Wow, gotta dig in the archives for this one... Jazz music in a Chicago , maybe? Yikes, I have no idea. The last time I shelled out actual dough to see music was probably to see dc Talk at University of Illinois years ago.
Frightening: The day I have to hang up my softball cleats
Quirk: I read schizophrenically. I'm currently in the middle of about 12 books. Ocassionally, I get attached to one and finish it.
Month to extend: AUGUST! Give me 19 more days of HEAT! HEAT! HEAT!
Appetizer
The Pines of Rome (counts as two: both the actual pines as well as the Respighi piece), The Alexander Valley at sunset (or sunrise or at high noon or in fog or...)
Soup
Tony Bennett last night. I am still reeling.
Salad
That I won't be as cool as Tony Bennett when I am his age.
Main Course
I am the epitome of normalcy. It is the rest of you who have quirky habits.
Dessert
What sort of nutso idea is this? 50 days, at the expense of what? Make February even shorter to lengthen December? I have long been in favor to trimming three of the thirty-one's to boost February. Then let the leap year month be a surprise, to be determined in secret by a Grand Council of Men in Funny Hats.

October!
1. Beautiful? Dendrobium and hyacinth, the ibis on the lawn in the early morning, alligators sunning with their little turtle hangers-on
2. Concert--It's been way too long, I don't remember
3. Fear? forgetting. anything.
4. Quirk? Don't have any that I can think of offhand.
5. Longest month? I second MamaT's October, just without any reservation. October and only october.
shalom,
Steven
3 beautiful things - sunsets, full moon, wren call
Last concert - My 4 oldest kids choir concert. I cried (again).
Frightening about getting older - my bad habits will get worse, not better. I'll be a cranky old woman, as I am a cranky middle aged woman, and I don't like it.
Funny quirks or habits - I twirl my hair
Extended month - May - it is a gorgeous month.
Beautiful: Newborn babies, David Austin roses, and ocean waves
Concert: a local one performed by a community Chorale group - Faure's Mass and I think Haydn. I almost fell asleep, but they were sincere and decent. (the performers, I mean.)
Old-Age Fear: Heh. There are two. 1. Forgetting. Everything. Including why I even entered a room in the first place. Have to go back and retrace my steps. It's unnerving, I tell you. 2. Incontinence. But let's not elaborate.
Quirk/Habit: Driving too fast, but it ain't funny.
Month: October or May.
Appetizer: How my little girl's face lights up when she sees her Daddy after he's been gone all day, The church I was married in, Babies
Soup: Years ago, I'm trying to remember. Proabably Trout Fishing in America and a couple weeks ago my kids preschool class gave a stirring rendition of the Itsy Bitsy Spider at their year end program.
Salad: All of it
Main Course: I twist my hair obsessively until it turns into a little knot and I have to rip it out. If I'm thinking about something it gets really bad.
Dessert: May
Beautiful: Big families at Mass, The smile of a good friend who is in tremendous pain but wants you to feel ok, and mountains.
Concert: A school concert, in which several of my students sang.
Getting Older: Forgetting people
Quirks: I put my chin in my shirt when I am trying to concentrate.
One Month: I would want to lengthen November. I love Autumn, and want it to be cool and crisp as long as possible.
I loved ALL of your beautiful things!
1. Beautiful: little boys curled up asleep together like puppies after fighting all day.
2. Concert: Elvis Costello, Mann Music Center Philly, 1989 (or was it '88)?
3. Fear: I'm afraid of being a widow.
4. Quirk: I sometimes still run up the stairs really fast after turning off the light because the boogeyman might get me! And I have to brush my teeth before I take the shower... it's part of the settled order of things in my universe.
5. Longest month: September (no matter how prepared I am for back to school, all the teachers heap on more items to buy... and it's always that wacky very, very specifc item like a 6" protractor that can only be bought in one certain store that gets ya.')

2. Cats of all species
3. Desert sky at sunset, just after the thunderstorm passes

What was the last concert you attended?
Greater Manchester Youth Symphony Orchestra - 2 weeks ago. Excerpts from Beethoven's 7th, an original (commissioned) piece that was a tribute to the city (Manchester NH) and many other lovely items. Plus, of course, the pleasure of seeing my daughter in concert black wearing her grandmother's pearls.

What is one thing that frightens you about getting older?
The fear that I will be left alone.

I despise mayonaise, yet I love tuna salad from the deli ( I just have to pretend that that white stuff isn't mayo)

If you could extend one month to 50 days (instead of the normal 28, 29, 30, or 31), which month would you want to lengthen?
none of them. I have enough issues with February. My favorite months are August and October, though.

If you could extend one month to 50 days (instead of the normal 28, 29, 30, or 31), which month would you want to lengthen? Either April or October because weather wise they are usually nice here in Tx
Appetizer: starry nights, deer, the (tea?) rosebush in my mother's backyard
Soup: Probably Elvis Costello at Wolf Trap in VA, June (?) 2002
Salad: Nothing really frightens me about it
Main course: I tend to pick up conversation threads from, like, two weeks ago, seemingly out of the blue. "So anyway,..."
Dessert: May is lovely this year but usually it seems late May is too hot. So maybe April.
