Whatcha Reading? Wednesday

STILL Jewel in the Crown by Paul Scott. Sigh. Maybe I'll finish this week. It's not that I don't like the book. In fact, I like it very much indeed. But for some reason I'm getting through it very s-l-o-w-l-y.

I did finish The Christmas Sweater by Glenn Beck. I though it was OK. The one thing that he expresses well in the book is the choice we have to make to forgive, or ask for forgiveness. I think he did an excellent job of that. I have been in that place where I was quite aware that I could say I was sorry, or accept someone else's "I'm sorry" yet quite consciously put up another wall between me and that person.

Next on the list? The second book of the Raj Quartet. And maybe Twilight, because I want to see what all the fuss is about. I have had several people ask my opinion of the books.

How 'bout you?

I'm just about finished with The Corrections. Not especially edifying reading, but a lot like eating Cheetos (fried not baked) - very hard to stop. Just an exceptional example of storytelling.

[It's what I now have come to call a Boppy Book. I use the Boppy I bought for the visiting baby to prop up the book! Everybody who has a laptop, thick hardcover books or unmanageable magazines needs a Boppy.)

I think my little ("baby") sister has an extra copy of Twilight (her original paperback, along with her hardcover to MATCH the others in the series) that she will probably lend you. I didn't get through the first chapter, it just wasn't worth my time or keep my attention.

I've read Twilight and its first sequel, New Moon. The first one wasn't too bad as Teen Romances go--though I can certainly think of several much better ones--but the second one made me seriously want to kill Bella Swan. My breath still catches in my throat when I think about some of the things she did and said in New Moon . . .

On the other hand, I know someone else who can intelligently and reasonably defend the entire Twilight series. So they may not be so bad, aye?

No more details now! I'm sure that if you're planning to read them, you don't want any spoilers than you can help. =)
