What's the saddest book you've read recently?
Though it was redemptive in the end, I recently reread The Kite Runner for book club. I thought it was an excellent book, and one that made my heart hurt.
It doesn't touch Mistry's A Fine Balance, which is probably the most heart-rending book I've ever read. It was great, but tragic.
How 'bout you?
The Kite Runner is still on my to-read list, but I've seen the film. Massively sad.
I just this morning finished Life of Pi, which I've been meaning to read for years. It was really great, my kind of novel, but sad from beginning to end.
