*in my smock opinion

looks like the green beanies are getting their knickers in a twist over the fact that regular folk aren't as freaked out about "earth day" as they are. see article here.

correct me if i'm wrong but there are other issues to be concerned about that are just as important, if not of more immediate concern, aren't there? say. . .national security? healthcare? employment? crime? education?

get this: The challenge goes beyond the environmental movement, said George Lakoff, a University of California, Berkeley linguistics professor who has written about how language colors political discourse. Lakoff argues that the entire public agenda has been seized by what he calls a "right-wing ideological political movement that's extremely powerful and well-funded."

a right-wing ideological political movement? now that's colorful language.

Hubby and I argue stuff like this ALL THE TIME. He thinks basically that the whole environmental movement on the whole is right on the money regarding global warming etc. I think maybe there are good reason to be skeptical.

For instance: What if: the Global current shift ing Pacific ocean is responsible for our most recent spate of mild summers and winters and not global warming. What if landfills really are just ugly and smelly, but not environmantal hazards of mega proportions. What if Air pollution is bad, but not "killing mother Earth".

And why do some many Earthlings (you call them green beanies worry about what planet there children will inherit whilst they fritter away there furtility with contraception and abortion and ZPG malarky? I'm not saying everyone go out and litter, I'm saying maybe that the hole in the ozone really isn't our fault and that it could be the NATURAL 'evolution' of the planet to melt the polar ice caps.

So far in my limited education and lifetime: the real ecological effects are seen when major freaking cataclismic events happen (like 9 point earthquakes in the Indian ocean). Then we see a lot of ecological activity.

I just am not convinced that bad air quality is anything more than bad air quality.

We have fish to fry that are going to be affected by the environment, but it's hard to untangle the strands to see where the tipping point lies on things like global warming. Everything that's wrong with our culture is also what's wrong with our attitudes towards the environment and vice versa, and the Earth-Day celebrants are just as involved in our culture as the rest of us. As long as there are humans on the planet, the impact of humans on the world will be significant. *that* is what the greenies are trying to accomplish, dearheart, they want to make mankind extinct because they essentially hate humanity. A lot of people hate humanity and their own humanness, witness the appalling numbers of people who mutilate their own genitals with tattoos and piercings and such. It's . . . a mess.

Did I actually spell fertililty "furtility"?! I was thinking about the futility of are arguing with the green and know you see how my brain computed it.

okay, everybody needs to grab a copy of michael crichton's novel state of fear.

Clean air, safe drinking water, and preserving our National Parks for future generations are all worthy causes for Catholics to support. Maybe the reason Americans aren’t as worked up about these issues as the green beanies would like is that there’s broad bipartisan agreement on these issues, we already have strong laws on the books against pollution, and as a result our air and water quality has been steadily improving nationwide for the past few decades spanning both Democratic and Republican administrations. And when was the last time you read about a National Park being bulldozed to make room for new condominiums?

The real problem is that the whole Green movement has been hijacked by ideologues who see “overpopulation” as the key issue and promote condoms and abortion as the solution. And they’re making real headway, I can’t tell you how many of my 20-something peers earnestly believe that it’s practically a crime against humanity and irredeemably “selfish” for a couple to have more than one child. Thus in its current form I think the environmentalist movement has done far more harm than good and ought to be actively opposed.
